The Hong Kong Prize and the Hong Kong Film Awards

This year, a Hong Kong-based research team was named winner of the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize in the field of biomedicine, after developing a simple, low-cost and safer way to detect Alzheimer’s disease (AD) early. The team’s discovery offers new opportunities to develop AD therapeutic targets, as well as to reduce the burden of this devastating illness for patients and their families.

The award is presented by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation, title sponsored by BOC Hong Kong Limited. It is awarded to scientists/teams for their outstanding research achievements and applications of their discoveries, with the mission of promoting Hong Kong’s scientific research environment, attracting global top science talent, nurturing forward-looking scientists, and together building Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub.

Winners of the hongkong prize receive financial awards as well as access to Hong Kong’s research facilities. In addition, the prestigious accolade has given them increased international visibility via top-tier media coverage and an expansive network of potential collaborators.

As a result of the Prize, researchers are more confident in investing their time and energy in Hong Kong and leveraging our unique research strengths to create value for society. They also feel more inclined to pursue their career ambitions in Hong Kong, which enables them to make a greater impact globally.

In the arts, Hong Kong is a vibrant center of culture and creativity. The Prize offers a unique platform to showcase the work of our students, encouraging them to continue their pursuit of excellence and expand their artistic horizons. The award ceremony provides an ideal platform for our artists to meet and discuss their ideas with industry experts, as well as a chance to win additional prizes including monetary rewards and professional development support.

The Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) are an annual award ceremony to honor the best films produced in Hong Kong and Macau each year. The HKFA is the main film awards event in Hong Kong and is hosted by the Hong Kong Film Critics Association since 1994. The HKFA is the only film awards in Hong Kong that uses an open voting system, allowing all the public to vote on eligible films.

The HKFA also presents the HKFA People’s Choice Award for the most popular film and the HKFA Best Student Film Awards. The HKFA People’s Choice Award is an unallocated prize, while the HKFA Best Student Film Awards are based on the results of an internal selection process by a panel of judges. The award ceremony is held in late December at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
